Advanced Training on Directive (EU) 2016/802 Sulphur content of marine fuels
An Advanced Training for Member States, Iceland and Norway on Directive (EU) 2016/802 Sulphur content of marine fuels, took place from 21 to 22 November 2018 at EMSA’s premises in Lisbon. Participants from the Canadian authorities were also invited to attend, following their request.
The training course provided an overview of the ship’s inspection process, including the inspection of ships’ documentation, on-board spot sampling and eventual reporting of the inspection. The training was based on EMSA’s Sulphur Inspection Guidance. The training aimed at officials from the Competent Authorities already authorized or that may be authorized in the future to verify compliance with the provisions of Directive (EU) 2016/802 (“Sulphur inspectors” as defined in Article 2 of Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/253).
As part of this training a visit to one of the cruise ships visiting Lisbon took place. It included a role play exercise, visit to the engine room , visit to see the Exhaust Gas Cleaning System and a demonstration of fuel sampling.
