Greening the Blue - Promoting sustainable practices in Coast Guard functions

Through its chairmanship of the North Atlantic Coast Guard Forum, the Swedish Coast Guard is promoting an ambitious agenda of knowledge and awareness raising on sustainability issues for all participants.
The North Atlantic Coast Guard Forum is a voluntary forum consisting of 16 countries (as well as three passive members) and a rotating chairmanship. Throughout 2024, the Swedish Coast Guard are organising two meetings to promote sustainable practices to 160 high level and key members of different North Atlantic Coast Guard bodies and organisations.
This agenda can encompass key issues like biological diversity, the consequences of commercial fishing, environmental response, and aquaculture, as well as future prioritisation of sustainability when choosing new fuels and equipment.
Also important in this project is dissemination, with the organisers putting an emphasis on making coast guard greening initiatives visible through awareness and dissemination to the public, at national and at regional level.
