Alternative fuels and sources of power
Date
On 28 and 29 November, EMSA will hold a workshop on alternative fuels and sources of power for shipping, which will be streamed live from our Lisbon headquarters.
Two new studies on the potential of hydrogen as a fuel for shipping and the potential of wind assisted power systems as a power source will be presented and discussed at the workshop. These studies complement our previous research on biofuels and ammonia, part of a series being carried out by EMSA into alternative fuels and power sources.
Also presented will be EMSA’s first ever Guidance on the safety of battery energy storage systems on board ships, as well as its forthcoming research on the safety aspects of alternative fuels.
The reports and guidance have been prepared to support the European Commission, national administrations, and industry in the ongoing decarbonisation of the maritime sector.
The programme
The two-day programme has been designed to feature the experience and perspectives of a wide range of maritime stakeholders, including shipowners, fuel producers, engine manufacturers, ports, and classification societies.
Also key to the discussions will be policy and legislative updates from the European Commission (Directorate General Mobility and Transport) and the International Maritime Organisation, as well as briefings from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency.
Live streaming The workshop will be streamed live on YouTube through the following links and will be accessible through the home page of EMSA’s website: Attend in person at EMSA’s headquarters There are some places available to attend the event at EMSA’s headquarters in Lisbon.
