15th Core Skills Course for Accident investigators
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, and the uncertainties regarding its future evolution, the Agency has taken the decision, for the time being, to postpone all traditional planned “face-to-face” training actions, as a precautionary measure and in order to prioritise the safety of participants and staff. In order to ensure continuity of the capacity building services offered to Member States, the Agency deliver the training on a live broadcasting synchronous mode using appropriate platform.
This was the first training delivered via Livestreaming. The course was delivered everyday with online hours from 09.30-12.30 and 13.30-16.00 with scheduled coffee/tea breaks and the lunchbreak. Participants were very attentive and eager to work with the material, despite following the course online via livestreaming. The small groups work was a success, groups were able to discuss with each other and produce results on exercises. The course was designed for those who will conduct, or participate in, marine safety investigations as per Directive 2009/18/EC and aimed to introduce participants to the basic elements in the process of conducting a safety investigation.
The training event involved 9 participants from 6 EU MS (Norway, Ireland, Germany, The Netherlands, Croatia, Spain (4). the training program was comprised by lectures, practical examples and group exercises with the active participation of the participants split in working groups.
The course introduced all relevant stages in the process of conducting a marine casualty safety investigation as well as the relevant principles and tools to support the conduct of witness interviewing, analysis of human factors and underlying conditions, safety recommendations and follow up and dealing with investigation reports.
