In the framework of the EU financed SAFEMED IV project, EMSA organised for the fist time a Seminar on Search and Rescue in collaboration with the Italian Coast Guard. The Seminar was delivered on 28-29 March 2019 at EMSA’s premises in Lisbon. 18 participants from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia participated to the event.

The main objective of the Seminar was to provide an overview of the international legal framework pertaining Search and Rescue, the various level of coordination, notion of planning and coordination of SAR operations, technologies available amongst others. The Italian Coast Guard also shared best practices and lesson learnt from real cases such as the Norman Atlantic.

All participants engaged actively during the seminar and the lecturers and shared their views and experiences with the Italian Coast Guard and their neighbour countries.
