SAFEMED IV and Black and Caspian Sea Training for ENI IMS Operators
In the context of the SAFEMED IV and Black and Caspian Sea projects, both funded by the EU, eleven participants from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia have undergone the training for the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) Integrated Maritime Services (IMS) Operators. The activity was hosted at EMSA premises, in Lisbon, from 19 to 20 February 2018 and open only to those countries which had previously signed the Condition of Use for ENI IMS services provided by EMSA.
The training was aimed at the familiarization with the SafeSeaNet Ecosystem GUI (SEG), which is the common web interface which serves multiple maritime user domains. These include, but are not limited to, Vessel Traffic Monitoring, Marine Pollution Monitoring, Maritime Law Enforcement, etc. SEG is designed to work on fixed and mobile devices including those enabled for touchscreen.
The course encompassed a step-by-step introduction of the SEG as well as practical exercises on the CleanSeaNet services in order to identify potential polluters. In a nutshell, CleanSeaNet supplements existing surveillance systems at national or regional level, strengthens beneficiary countries responses to illegal discharges, and supports response operations to accidental spills.
This activity is part of the Component 4 “Protection of the Marine Environment” of both projects.
