How much does the EU invest in EMSA’s pollution response services?
The European Maritime Safety Agency has been given multi-annual funding, coinciding with the EU multi-annual financial framework, for its 'anti-pollution' activities. Funding for the period 2007-13 consisted of 154 million EUR.
A series of annual reports containing the financial overview for the period 2007-13 as well as detailed costs and expenditures related to the Agency's pollution preparedness and response activities are available in the EMSA website.
For the period 2014-20, 160.5 million EUR has been allocated to the Agency. It should be noted that the new multi-annual funding will cover all the previous tasks focussed on responding to ship-source oil and hazardous and noxious substances (HNS) marine pollution, and will also cover the activities being developed to address EMSA's new mandate to respond to marine pollution caused by oil and gas installations. For more details, please consult Regulation (EU) No 911/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 July 2014 on multiannual funding for the action of the European Maritime Safety Agency in the field of response to marine pollution caused by ships and oil and gas installations
