The Dispersant Usage Evaluation Tool (DUET intended to provide support for decision-making regarding the use of dispersants when responding to a pollution incident. DUET consists of:
- A three-dimensional numeric model to simulate oil spills with dispersant applications, which provides a quantitative comparison of response options according different levels of effectiveness depending on the dispersant and timing of its application;
- Data on various types of crude and refined oils and an extensive technical documentation section.
The model system implemented in DUET is not designed to be a trajectory model for the purpose of forecasting the movements of oil and planning the placement of response measures during an actual incident. More information on the use of dispersants as an oil spill response option can be found in the 'Manual on the Applicability of Oil Spill Dispersants'
