1st edition of Common Core Curriculum on Principles & Techniques for Safety Investigators goes live.

EMSA, through the EMSA Academy, has developed and is delivering as from the 4^th of March 2024 the first iteration of the Common Core Curriculum on Principles and Techniques for Safety Investigators.

The Curriculum is divided into four phases covering 12 units across 20 non-consecutive of weeks. It will be delivered in a blended mode with most of the learning activities on an asynchronous (non-real time) modality, allowing participants to complete the different units at their own pace and convenience.

However, at regular intervals, participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact online with the relevant EMSA subject matter experts, whilst a face-to-face session for five days at EMSA’s premises is also planned.

The Common Core Curriculum on Principles and Techniques for Safety Investigators is aimed at individuals who are newcomers, or who intend to become Maritime Safety Investigators for the competent authorities of their national administrations.

This innovative learning service is designed and developed to provide participants with the necessary individual competencies for carrying out duties associated with accident and or safety investigations. It aims to provide learners with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to conduct the relevant investigations professionally, efficiently, and effectively and to the required standards’ benchmarked practice.

Furthermore, and in an effort to increase cooperation between EU and non-EU countries, whilst enhancing harmonised implementation in shared sea basins, the Common Core Curriculum is attended both by 20 participants from 13 EU Member States, Iceland and Norway and 32 participants from 16 beneficiary countries of the SAFEMD V, BC SEA II and IPA III projects.

The Common Core Curriculum on Principles and Techniques for Safety Investigators is an ISO 29993:2017 certified learning service outside formal education developed by the EMSA Academy and it is delivered on the Maritime Knowledge Centre (MaKCs), the eLearning Platform of the Agency.
