European Institutions have set up different types of Agencies. It exists:
- Agencies set up to carry out specific technical, scientific and management tasks in the framework of common foreign and security policy (i.e European Defence Agency; European Union Agency for Security Studies and European Union Satellite Centre);
- Police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters (i.e European Police College; European Police Office; European Union’s Judicial Cooperation Unit)
- Community Agencies (i.e Community Fisheries Control Agency; European Chemicals Agency; European Food Safety Agency)
- Executive agencies set up to manage EU programmes (i.e Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation; Executive Agency for Health and Consumers)
- EURATOM agencies and bodies created to support the aims of the European Atomic Energy Community
