SAFEMED V steering group

As a bilateral action under the Black and Caspian Sea Regions II, the Italian Coast Guard (ITCG) hosted a delegation of eight attendees from the Project’s beneficiary country Kazakhstan, accompanied by an EMSA representative. The primary objective of this initiative was to exchange best practices to strengthen international cooperation in the field of maritime search and rescue (SAR).

The first day, held on October 29 at the Italian Coast Guard Headquarters, featured a series of presentations conducted by ITCG officers. They outlined Italy's national SAR organization, operational procedures and the international and national regulatory framework governing SAR. During the day, the delegation also had the opportunity to visit the Operations Center at the IMRCC in Rome, where the technological and information systems used to coordinate search and rescue operations were presented.

The second day, held on October 30 at the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) in Civitavecchia, focused on operational functions and capabilities through field experience. Additionally, the delegation observed the resources available for managing SAR operations at sea.
